- Do Not Call Registry
Register your telephones on the national "do not call" registry to restrict most telemarketing calls. You can register online at www.donotcall.gov. To register by phone, call 1-888-382-1222 from the number you wish to register. As of January 1st of 2005, the law requires telemarketers to access the National Do Not Call Registry and purge newly registered numbers from their call lists every 31 days.
- Opt-Out Of Prescreened Credit Card Lists
Call 1-888-5opt-out(567-8888) to get your name off most prescreened credit card lists. You will see a reduction in the number of unsolicited credit card and insurance offers you receive in the mail. You will be asked for your Social Security number during the prerecorded message, and it's all right to give it in this instance. Issuers affiliated with the major credit reporting agencies will honor your request.

Register your name with the Direct Marketing Association's Telephone Preference Service and Mail Preference Service to receive fewer phone solicitations and junk mail. Registration by mail is free.
